What are Excavator Precautions?



Tipping-over may occur if the excavator is on uneven ground or on a slope. To avoid such accidents, the following instructions should be taken when the excavator is operated on uneven ground or on a slope. Firstly, keep the excavator engine running at a low speed. Secondly, choose the low-speed travel mode. Thirdly, operate slowly and observe the motion of the excavator. Finally, never attempt to travel on a slope with the bucket loaded or with a load lifted.


In detail, we should never attempt to travel up/down a slope with a grade greater than 30° and never attempt to cross a slope with a grade greater than 15°. The seat belt needs to keep fastened. The bucket should be pointed towards the traveling direction and 20~30cm off the ground, and be released immediately once the excavators slips or lose balance. The direction change is forbidden on a slope, or the machine may slip and tip over. We should avoid crossing a slope as possible as condition allows, because slipping or overturn may result.

We should also remember that the upper structure of the excavator could never be swung on a slope or to the downhill direction; otherwise, the excavator may tip over. If such operation is necessary, swing the upper structure and the boom with great care. In the event that the engine stalls on a slope, lower the bucket to the ground immediately and neutralize all control levers and restart the engine. Sany Global.

Before traveling up a steep slope, allow the Sany excavator to warm up sufficiently so that the machine can perform well. When traveling uphill, keep the track in the straight forward direction. When traveling downhill, keep the bucket in the traveling direction and 20~30cm off the ground.

Park Your Excavator Safely in Rainy Season



In rainy days, the heavy rain may cause some geological disasters such as landslide or debris flow. Therefore, we should park the excavator in correct way to protect your safety and property.


Sometimes, the construction work has to suspend due to the heavy rain. Then don’t park your excavator on the jobsite. Transfer the excavator to a safe place. Generally speaking, the excavator needs to work in a place for several days or even longer. As for the most common earthwork, operators excavate the soil from a mountain. It is a very dangerous act to park the excavator on the mountain, since the hillside has been loose and the formal stress structure has been destroyed that is prone to collapse. Especially after the erosion of water, the probability of collapsing has greatly increased. Park the excavator under the tree is not a good choice, since it might be struck by lightning or gale. Then where is a safe place? Choose a solid and firm road to park, such as cement or pitch road. 

The posture of placing an excavator also has a knack. After consulting many experienced operators, the best posture is to stretch the boom and let the bucket grovel on the ground. This posture can best protect the hydraulic cylinder’s core pulling from rains or artificial damage. It is also the best posture to change the hydraulic oil, which can recollect the hydraulic oil to the hydraulic oil tank as much as possible. 

Before you leave the heavy excavator, cut the whole machine’s power supply to avoid the electric leakage. Even though, we can’t avoid some natural disaster, but we can try to avoid the loss through our good habits.

Basics of long reach or high reach excavators



Long reach excavators and high reach excavators are digging machines with an extended boom that is longer than the typical excavators. A long reach excavator is built to expand the working range or operating radius of the digger so that the excavator can reach higher, deeper and farther. The long reach diggers are widely used in many working conditions, including mining, wharfs, warehouses, building demolition, dredging canals or rivers, flood relief and other special conditions. Compared with the structure of a typical excavator, the long reach excavator differs in the following aspects such as main boom, extended boom, boom cylinder, extended boom cylinder, excavator bucket and bucket cylinder. The extended boom is attached on the top of the main boom and a corresponding cylinder is added to the working device, with a cylinder control system added in the cabin so that the operator can control the extension and retraction of the boom.

How to choose a second-hand excavator with high performance



Choosing a satisfying second-hand excavator needs comprehensive inspection. We should not only check the appearance of the excavator but also take a test drive which can detect the real performance of the second-hand excavator.

An excavator has a self-inspection process when it is connected to power like cars. During the process, various kinds of sensors begin to work, gathering information such as water temperature, oil temperature and fault message. The information and some fault codes can be displayed on the monitor. The time period for the self-inspection varies among different types of excavators, but the average time is approximately ten seconds. When you start the engine of the excavator, you can stand by the engine to hear its sound. The engine quality can be detected from whether the engine has abnormal sound. The starting time can also reflect some problems. Long time starting indicates that there exist some problems of the engine. The service life of the engine will be greatly shortened due to the enormous electric current.
The engine’s exhaust condition should also be examined. If there is a small quantity of black smoke when the excavator just starts and disappears later, it is the normal condition due to the insufficient burning of diesel.  But if there is white smoke, it indicates the abnormal situation. The white smoke might be water vapor or diesel vapor. Water vapor means water flows into the cylinder and diesel vapor means the engine’s time distribution has some problem. Some diesel has been ejected without burning.
